The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a shooting with casualties Wednesday at Ft. Hood, scene of a 2009 attack that left 13 dead.

No further information was immediately available on the incident, the shooter or the extent of any injuries.

A banner running at the top of Ft. Hood?s website cautioned, ?Shelter in place immediately. This is not a test.?

Multiple people have been injured and the search for the gunman is underway after a shooting at the Fort Hood Army post Wednesday afternoon.

Reports of an active shooter triggered a lockdown at Fort Hood with local sheriff's deputies and the FBI immediately responding to the threat.

A U.S. Army official at Fort Hood confirms that a shooting has occurred at the base, though the number of people injured and the severity of their injuries has not been confirmed.

NBC News reports as many as eight people may be injured and that there may be two people responsible for the shooting.  One of those is believed to be "down" while the second is at-large.

Just after 5 p.m., the base tweeted that all personnel are being asked to shelter in place, close doors and stay away from windows.

The shooting is believed to have taken place at the Medical Brigade Building. KCEN-TV reports there are also reports of victims at the Battle Simulation Center.

Additionally, the campus of Central Texas College has been evacuated due to the emergency at the Army post.  All personnel and students are asked to leave and all classes are canceled.

Active Shooter Reported at Fort Hood

Fort Hood locked down

KCEN-TV in Central Texas is reporting multiple people have been injured Wednesday in a second mass shooting at Fort Hood.

An official at the base said the post is on lock down.

KCEN reports at least one person has been transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition and that several others are injured.

The exact number of injured are not yet known.

The shooting is believed to have taken place at the Medical Brigade Building.

The shooter is believed to be at-large.

Fort Hood has not confirmed any information other than that there are reports of a shooting on the base.

In November 2009, 13 people were killed and more than 30 others injured when Maj. Nidal Hasan opened fire on dozens of people at the base. Hasan was paralyzed during an exchange of gunfire and, in late 2013, was sentenced to death.  He is currently awaiting execution.

FORT HOOD (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities are responding to a shooting at the Fort Hood army base, where at least one person is dead and at least three people are injured, according to the CBS affiliate in Waco. KWTX reports approximately 20 rounds were fired. The Bell Co Sheriff?s Dept confirms an active shooter is on post. The Sheriff?s Office is responding as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Fort Hood has sent a tweet asking all personnel to take shelter in place.

Fort Hood is the site of one of the deadliest massacres on U.S. soil. On Nov. 5, 2009, then-Maj. Nidal Hasan carried two weapons inside, shouted ?Allahu Akbar!? and opened fire. Hasan walked through the building, targeting anyone in a green Army uniform. Thirteen people were killed and more than 30 wounded. Hasan was found guilty and sentenced to death in 2013.

One Death Confirmed In Fort Hood Shooting

FORT HOOD (April 2, 2014) At least one person is dead after a shooting late Wednesday afternoon on Fort Hood, a post spokesman confirmed.

Others were injured in the shooting, but the spokesman didn?t say how many.

A source told News 10 that as many as 15 wounded victims were taken to hospitals and that some were being treated at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

The gunman is still at large and the spokesman said the incident is being treated as an active-shooter situation.

?There has been a shooting at Fort Hood and injuries are reported. Emergency crews are on the scene. No further details are known at this time,? the post said in a brief statement issued just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Warning sirens sounded late Wednesday afternoon at Fort Hood because of the incident.

A man who said he was a witness told News 10 that about 20 shots were fired in a post motor pool in the area of Motor Pool Road and Tank Destroyer Boulevard.

He said at least three people were hit.

He said the three victims were taken to a hospital.

The post was on lockdown as a result of the shooting, which occurred at around 4:25 p.m.

People on post were told to stay indoors.

President Barack Obama is in Chicago this evening for two fundraising events. The White House issued a statement saying Obama has been informed of the shootings at Fort Hood and will be kept apprised.

There is no mention in the reports of Obama cancelling the fundraisers as soldiers under his command are under attack on American soil.

From Politico at 6:55 p.m. EDT (which doesn?t mention Obama is fundraising in Chicago):

    ?Air Force One landed at O?Hare Airport Wednesday around 4 p.m.(CDT), bringing President Obama back home to Chicago for a pair of fundraisers.

    ?President Obama will only be in Chicago for a few hours before heading back to the White House. In anticipation of President Obama?s visit, some closures on Lake Shore Drive are in place and LaSalle Street north of the Chicago River is also closed in the River North neighborhood.

    ?His first scheduled stop is at the Chicago Cut Steakhouse, where he will attend a private roundtable discussion for the Democratic National Committee. Twenty-five supporters will attend that event, each paying up to $32,400.
