WASHINGTON -- Washington, D.C., police say a tourist from Denver may have been beaten to death by a serial attacker who clubbed two other people over the head within 26 hours in the same northwest area of the nation's capital.
Starting with the Tuesday evening slaying of 66-year-old Gary Dederichs, a retired Denver nurse, two other people apparently walking alone were attacked in the same 10-block radius, Metropolitan D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a Thursday afternoon news conference.
"It appears that the victims may have been attacked suddenly and without provocation," Lanier said. Police have found no clear motive, including robbery, in the attacks.
