THE WHITEBOARD
QUESTION TIME -- WATCH LIVE: After Felipe Calderon of Mexico speaks, President Obama says they'll take "one question each." Ben Feller of the AP gets the nod from Obama. Feller says he has a question for each -- and a follow-up. Obama remarks, "With a follow up, so that'd make it a three-parter?" Some chuckles among the press corps.

Feller notes that Obama has chided the press corps for wanting results quickly. He asks if Obama is "actively considering" a no-fly zone in Libya. His second question is about a possible NFL lockout, and whether Obama will get involved.

"Let me deal with football first," Obama says. "You've got owners, most of whom are worth close to a billion dollars. You've got players who are making millions of dollars. ... When people are working to cut back, compromise and worry about making the mortgage and paying for their kids' college education is that the two parties should be able to work it out without the president of the United States. ... I'm a big football fan, but I also think that for an industry that's making $9 billion a year in revenue, they can figure out how to divide it up in a sensible way. ... My expectation and hope is that they will resolve it without me intervening, because it turns out I've got a lot of other stuff to do."

Some people laugh when he says that, and Obama smirks.

More from the presser on Football

THE WHITEBOARD
QUESTION TIME -- WATCH LIVE: The brief press conference takes on a lighter tone as President Felipe Calderon of Mexico weighs in on the football question posed to President Obama. He says he's no "expert," but that his wife loves the game and that he'll ask her about it.

"Football is very important to Mexicans," Calderon says. “With the exception of money, you can count on us.”

US Media Gets One Question At Obama/Calderon Presser; AP Asks About NFL Lockout

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/03/03/us_media_gets_one_question_at_obamacalderon_presser_ap_asks_about_nfl_lockout.html

Quote
Ben Feller of the AP asks President Obama: "The other topic is something that is quite different, but does matter to millions of Americans. The National Football League is on the brink of a complete shutdown as of tonight over a labor dispute. Obviously, that's an economic issue for cities but also something that a lot of people just care about. I'm wondering if it's something that you'd be willing to personally intervene on and if not, why not?"

so, we don't have to worry about "comprehensive NFL reform"?  thank God.  I didn't think that this bunch thought that anything was out of their reach.

Because he's "The One" we've been waiting for, said so himself.

what he actually said was, "we are the ones we've been waiting for".  which, aside from being plagiarized, is even more mindless.  yet the media swooned.  2008 just wasn't a red letter year for critical thinking in the US.

One of the most arrogant, narcissistic statements ever!

Redistribution of wealth...one of the hallmark themes in Obama's quiver.  Those dastardly owners with their billions putting the squeeze on players making millions.  Ah the poor fellows.

It is ONLY the OWNERS and the TAXPAYERS that take any risk regarding football.  The owners who own the teams must make it profitable, and the taxpayers, who are called upon to build stadiums we do NOT need just to keep a team within a given city.  It is corruption at the highest level.

The 10 counties that surround the Pittsburgh metro area voted down a referendum for spending hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to replace Three River Stadium, which was only opened in 1971.  There was still $60 million in debt for Three River Stadium, and despite the voters in the 10 counties voting down the two new stadiums by a vote of 70%, the state went forward and built two new stadiums and increased taxes to help pay for it.

What a terrible waste of taxpayer money.  This is happening all over the country, and it just does not matter what the voters say, the elected officials do whatever they want, or whatever they have been bribed to do.

This is why I am adamant about not returning incumbents to office.

Just imagine how bad it will be when Americans are always outvoted by public unions and welfare cases.

if everyone becomes a ward of the state, everyone will vote for the liberal.  it's a dangerous thing that we are flirting with.

porn is already free.  hell, you can't even google "eskimo" without something alarming turning up.  it's when porn masquerades as art, or, even worse, education, that the alarm bells go off.

and most states are smart enough to keep "free drugs" from becoming law.  CA is the exception, but sadly, the state of my birth seems to be making every wrong decision possible.
