What we know about the pending deal is that the Democrats and Republicans are agreeing to a Deficit Commission. Despite the media spin — and the spin of some Republican sycophants — the deficit commission, which will be a super committee of the Congress, will have the power to come up with new tax revenue.

And if the Congress rejects the Commission’s demands for new tax revenue, there will be a trigger that cuts both medicare funding and defense funding.

Except, the defense funding cuts will be much more massive than the medicare cuts. And the GOP, in addition to seeing defense cut, would be hacking off seniors right before an election

It looks like letting the Bush tax cuts expire is in the bill. (or agreed to behind the scenes)

We lost this one people. The GOP caved hard.

first, the president wanted a "business as usual/budget buster" budget;  he didn't get it.  then he wanted a "clean bill" to increase the deficit;  he didn't get it.  then he wanted tax increases;  he didn't get them.  then he declared war on private jets, and attempted to deceive the country with the phrase, "balanced approach".  he failed.

he needed a fresh revenue stream to continue his unchecked mayhem upon the american people, and he didn't get it.  he is effectively in a box until november of 2012.

that is something.  it's not what I wanted, but it's something.  we have to be realistic.  we have one-half of the two legislative/operational branches of government, and the house freshmen have STILL changed the topic of conversation in washington.  up until this month, raising the debt ceiling has been a pro-forma sort of thing.  that is all over now.

I'm just thanking God for the midterms.  I can't imagine where we would be if ReBamaLosi still reigned supreme and unchallenged.

JB...simple facts....this is an absolute loss for the Republicans.  If we move forward with this special Congressional Commission, I see that as very negative.  The Republicans accomplished nothing with the events of the past couple months...but they did pass legislation that increases cost for all Internet users (from a corporate perspective) for data retention.  What this will accomplish is a mystery to me.

Where are the Republican priorities, and where is the Tea Party?  They should be going nuts.....and if they are not, then the American people have indeed been betrayed.

The matter of the rich paying their fair share.....what poppycock!!!!!!!!!!!  I sat and listened to Mayor Bloomberg....many times a billionaire.......sit there and say he does not mind in the slightest paying more in taxes...and Obama has said the same.....

DO YOU REALLY THINK BLOOMBERG, WHO PROBABLY MAKES OVER A BILLION EACH YEAR IN PROFIT, DO YOU THINK HE REALLY CARES IF HE PAYS $150 MILLION VERSUS $140 MILLION IN TAXES WHEN HE MAKES A BILLION IN PROFIT?   Get real!!!!!!!!!

These people that are rich, their life will not change one shred if they pay more in taxes.  But people making under $500,000 per year, their life is definitely impacted the further one goes below that number, and under $100,000 annual income, and more people are struggling.

We have two wage earners in a household just scrapping by for most households.  We have courts destroying families in the courts, with more than 50% of our population being subjected to the vagaries of corrupt divorce court....absolutely destroying the lives of good people.

Marriage itself as an institution is being destroyed by these corrupt judges and attorneys....to the point the only people wanting marriage are those that are gay....go figure.

I would advise anyone getting married today to have a Pre nup divorce agreement in place...that way there are no surprises...and far less pain, and it screw the whores of law....the attorneys and judges out of what they consider their fair share....ONE THIRD OF EVERYTHING..,.

If this passes the GOP will then be blackmailed. The debt commission will propose tax hikes and if Congress fails to obey this "supercongress" then defense/medicare get cut. The MSM will bludgeon the GOP with the medicare cut while conservatives will be angry either way.

This bill is setting the GOP up. If they vote for this, they will deserve losing in 2012

It is also nice to see the faux conservatives coming out of the closet and attacking the TEA Party and showing their true colors. Allen West and Laura Ingraham among them

The American people are once again betrayed by the Republican Party.  If this deal goes down, this deal will only damage the Republican Party in 2012.

The GOP stands for NOTHING TODAY>!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hypocrites....each and every one that votes for this legislation.

2012 will be a milestone for conservatives in America.  Either the Tea Party stands up with firm conviction to unseat everyone that stands in the way of conservative values...including both sides of the aisle, or they might as well go back to their zebra lives and end the charade.

Sitting here watching The Natural with Robert Redford playing Roy Hobbs.  The GOP needs a real leader, someone that has charisma and can hit balls out of the park....rather than these sniveling, cry baby types that lead the party.

I could not be more disgusted....and this is not a case of lesser evil....both sides of the aisle are betraying the American people.

TIME FOR A NEW REVOLUTION IN AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!  That day of reckoning gets closer with each crooked step that Congress makes.

they just handed us a dream campaign issue for 2012;  tax increases.  and obama is married to raising them.

this administration always seems to be willing to "have that fight", or "have that debate".  but the second the fight starts, they scream like girls and call the everyone that doesn't agree with them names, sometimes in a spinelessly round-about way -- "an adult conversation", "a serious conversation", they are "making stuff up", & etc., etc.

it's just tedious beyond words.

Quote
Referring to the 2012 election, Carney said President Obama “and his opponent, when there is one,” will doubtless debate the debt. He added that “the president looks forward to that debate” as the election nears.

the debt ceiling issue also needed to go away because it was absorbing all of the oxygen in the news cycle.  the gunrunning scandal definitely leads into the DoJ, and last week's economic numbers indicate that we are dipping into another recession, and this one obama CAN'T blame on george bush.

the point is that there are a LOT of others things to talk a bout.  the president was actually fortunate to have this "crisis" burning in the foreground.
