Police said 10 people were killed at the college, including the 26-year-old gunman, and seven others were injured. Earlier reports were that there were up to 15 killed and more than 20 injured.

Harper Mercer is from Torrance, California, and most recently lived in Winchester, Oregon, which is near the school.

KPTV reports that there is a heavy police presence in his community.

?He appears to be an angry young man who was very filled with hate,? a law enforcement official told the New York Times.

The anti-Christ shooter is a teetotaling Nazi

?I have noticed that so many people like [Vester Lee Flanagan] are alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are,? Harper-Mercer wrote in a blog post, referring to the man who in August murdered a reporter and a cameraman on live TV in Virginia, according to CBS News.

?A man who was known by no one is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems like the more people you kill, the more you?re in the limelight.?

Oregon gunman Chris Harper-Mercer lived in Torrance, graduated from Switzer Center

http://www.dailybulletin.com/general-news/20151001/oregon-gunman-chris-harper-mercer-lived-in-torrance-graduated-from-switzer-center

Lists of South Bay graduates from 2009 published in the Daily Breeze showed Harper Mercer graduated from the Switzer Learning Center in Torrance with four other students. Switzer teaches students with learning disabilities and emotional issues.

A former behavioral aide at Switzer, who did not want her name used, said the majority of the students at the school are from foster, low-income and single-parent homes. Some of these students were expelled from other schools or had been in trouble with the law.

The school is divided among special needs students and those with behavioral problems.

Records showed Harper Mercer and his mother moved to Winchester, Ore., in 2013. In addition to Torrance, Harper showed previous addresses in Lomita, Harbor Gateway and Lomita.

CBS News reported that Harper Mercer?s stepsister said he was born in England and moved to the United States as a young boy. Harper Mercer?s father, who lives in Tarzana, married her mother, and the stepsister said the last time she spoke with Harper-Mercer was a year ago.

In Torrance, Medrano said it was shocking to learn Harper Mercer reportedly shot his victims after asking them if they were Christian.

?I wonder what happened in his life that brought him to that point,? Medrano said. ?It?s heartbreaking.?

The relative described Mercer as ?quiet.? She said that he joined the Army at one point, but that she did not know any details or why he left.

The issue is not guns, or gun control, the issue is mental health.

Everyone wants to praise Ronald Reagan all the time, but he did some things that were not in the best interest of America.  He released or should I say forced those in mental institutions back onto the streets.  Today it is very hard to commit someone with a mental disorder.

We need to establish a process for getting people help.  And we need a means to assess the mental health of those seeking to acquire guns.  I believe in the 2nd amendment, but I also believe in sane approaches for people acquiring guns.  Plus there has to be a process in place for addressing threatening behavior.  If someone is talking about killing someone, there has to be a process to investigate that individual.

He went to that special school. That should have come up on a gun purchase. Oregon one of the most rigid gun control states.

Oregon Shooting: Umpqua Gunman Chris Harper Mercer ? What We Know

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/oregon-college-shooting/oregon-shooting-umpqua-gunman-chris-harper-mercer-what-we-know-n437351

Quote
The heavily armed gunman who slaughtered nine people at an Oregon college left a hate-filled note at the scene of his rampage and "felt the world was against him," law enforcement officials confirmed Friday.

Two officials familiar with the contents of the note say 26-year-old Christopher Harper Mercer, who was killed in after an exchange of gunfire with police Thursday at Umpqua Community College, wrote that he would be "welcomed in Hell and embraced by the devil."

He wrote that he was "in a bad way," one official said. "He was depressed, sullen."

The officials said Mercer lamented the fact that he did not have a girlfriend. "He said he had no life," another official said, adding: "He felt the world was against him."

Former acquaintances and social-media postings paint a picture of Mercer as a withdrawn young man who spent a lot of time on the Internet.

He appeared to be sympathetic to the predominantly Catholic Irish Republican Army ? but also posted online that he was "not religious."

Public records show that one person of that name was born in Los Angeles County in 1989. Police declined to confirm the shooter's identity late Thursday and during a news conference Friday, in an attempt to not "glorify" the actions of the gunman who killed nine people and wounded nine others.

Authorities told reporters that the shooter had amassed 13 weapons ? all purchased legally by either him or a family member from a federal gun dealer.

Six of the weapons were recovered at the scene and seven from his home, said Celinez Nunez, an assistant special agent in charge with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The guns taken from the home were two pistols, four rifles and one shotgun, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

'Lucky one' in Oregon shootings provides details of massacre

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/10/11/lucky-one-in-oregon-shootings-provides-details-massacre/?intcmp=hpbt3

Quote
SEATTLE ?  The 18-year-old college student singled out by the shooter as the "lucky one" to survive and deliver a package to law enforcement has told his story for the first time about the massacre in Roseburg, Oregon.

In a written statement that was the most detailed account thus far of the Oct. 1 shooting, Mathew Downing said Friday that when Christopher Harper-Mercer entered the Umpqua Community College classroom, Downing's ears were ringing from shots already fired, and he thought what was happening "couldn't be real."

He said the first thing the shooter did was put his backpack on the front desk and pull out an envelope, saying: "There is a flash drive in this and whoever survives this should give it to the police."

Downing's account of what came next coincides with relatives of survivors who previously reported that Harper-Mercer looked at Downing and said, "Hey kid with the glasses, you are the lucky one. I will not shoot you if you give this to the cops."

Downing said he stood up then, and the shooter pointed a gun at him. "This is the moment I thought I was going to die," Downing said.

Instead, the shooter paused for a moment, Downing said, and handed him the envelope. Next, the shooter told Downing to sit in the very back seat and face him.

Downing did so and said at that point Harper-Mercer fired into the center of the room and began asking students one by one if they were religious. The shooter fired at one student who said he was Christian and another who said she was Catholic.

The shooter reloaded two handguns with ammunition from his backpack during the killings, Downing said. Harper-Mercer was "firing on people who were just lying there," Downing said.

Downing also said the shooter seemed to lose interest when a woman told him she couldn't move her legs to stand up because of the pain.

He turned to another woman, telling her to stand, and she picked up a desk to defend herself, Downing said. Harper-Mercer fired at her anyway, hitting her in the leg.

When the shooter noticed police, he leaned out a window and fired at them. Downing also wrote that after Harper-Mercer was hit by police gunfire, he lay down on the floor and shot himself in the head.

Harper-Mercer killed nine people and wounded nine others.
