Shots fired near Capitol after car chase starting at White House

Quote
Shots were fired outside the U.S. Capitol after a car chase that started when a woman tried to ram a security barrier near the White House, putting the Hill temporarily on lockdown in a chaotic scene Thursday afternoon.

According to U.S. Capitol Police, one officer was injured in a related car crash. One person could be seen being carried off in a stretcher -- it's not clear if that was the officer.

Officials say the incident was not related to terrorism, and the suspect is in custody.

Terrance Gainer, the Senate sergeant at arms, told Fox News that this appears to be an "isolated incident." Gainer also said the officer injured crashed a police cruiser while trying to join the chase. The cruiser "seriously clipped" a barricade, he said, but the injuries are "not life threatening."

The chase and stand-off caused panic on Capitol Hill, with sirens blaring inside the building and lawmakers and their staff being ordered to stay in place. The lockdown has since been lifted, and those inside the Capitol are no longer being ordered to "shelter in place."

Sources told Fox News the incident began with a car chase, which started when a woman tried to ram a gate near the White House.

Several police cars pursued her to a location near the Capitol building.

When they boxed her in, sources said, the driver got out and five or six shots were fired. Witnesses saw a baby being taken from the car.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene.

"We were definitely caught off guard

Why did DC cops chase down and shoot an unarmed woman??

* because they are all racists!

** because they are all NAZI?s

*** because they are all gun-toting maniacs with itchy trigger fingers

**** because they scared of unarmed black female drivers who are lost and scared

*x5 because they were saving all of DC, heroically, from the ?attack? of a lone unarmed female

*x6 psychological problems were obvious and ObamaCare won?t cover it

*x7 The jail was closed because of the shut-down and shooting was the only option at the moment (they could think of?)

*x8 Sequester meant no recharging their tasers

*x9 she was carrying a concealed baby in the car

*x10 Her purse was made by Kalashnikov

*x11 Because there was no crazy biker gang to chase her down

*x12 Ted Cruz?s fault

*x13 Barrycades!

*x14 Because an air strike would take too long

*x15 Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BONUS *x16 Joos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connecticut woman killed after Capitol Hill chase reportedly had mental health issues

Quote
The suspect in the high-speed chase between the White House and the Capitol Building was identified Friday by a law enforcement source as a dental hygienist from Connecticut with a history of mental issues.

The source identified the woman as Miriam Carey, 34, of Stamford, Conn. Carey tried to plow her car into a barricade at the White House, then led cops on a high-speed chase before being shot dead near the Capitol, according to reports.

Other reports suggest that she had a history of mental health issues.

Carey?s apartment in Stamford was swarmed by the FBI and various law-enforcement agencies   Thursday evening, with helicopters circling and a bomb squad ready, as they awaited a warrant to search the premises.

Sources tell Fox News that the FBI is currently investigating how long the suspect was in Washington, DC and why she had travelled there from Connecticut.

Leslie Silva, a Stamford lawyer who has represented Carey, said she was unaware of any connection or reason why Carey would have been in Washington.

'She thought President Obama was stalking her': Dental hygienist shot dead after ramming her car into the White House 'suffered delusions due to postpartum depression'

Mother said she suffered from postpartum depression after birth of daughter Erica

Carey's 18-month-old daughter Erica - who was in the back seat - was not injured, despite the Secret Service and U.S. Capitol police firing up to 15 shots into her car.

Little Erica was rescued from the bullet-riddled car after her mother was shot dead. She is currently in the custody of child services workers.

It emerged today that Carey had been sued by her condominium association for failure to pay fees.

The complaint filed in November by the association for the Stamford building said Miriam Carey had failed to pay her fees in full since August 2010 and owed the association $1,759 in addition to collection costs.

The lawsuit was settled in February.

The lawsuit by the Woodside Green Association indicates Carey took out a mortgage on her Stamford condo in the amount of $237,616 in September 2009.

Idella Carey told ABC News that her daughter Miriam 'had postpartum depression after having the baby' in August 2012.

'A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed.... She was hospitalized,' Mrs Carey added.

She thought Carey was taking Erica to a doctor's appointment in Connecticut.

The 34-year-old has five sisters, one of whom is an NYPD officer.

Another, Amy Carey - who is a nurse in Brooklyn - expressed disbelief when told about what happened to her sister by a Washington Post reporter.

'That's impossible. She works, she holds a job. She wouldn't be in D.C. She was just in Connecticut two days ago,' she said. 'I spoke to her...I don't know what's happening. I can't answer anymore.'

Dentist Barry Weiss told NBC Connecticut that Carey was working for him in January 2012 when she suffered a fall and missed two-to-three weeks of work.

this is proof positive that we need lunatic control, not gun control.

all of the nutcases that have gunned down large numbers of people were deranged.  controlling guns would not have prevented HER.

exactly how many people did she kill?

She was an unarmed woman who was executed AFTER the danger was finished.

I see the family is going to have its own investigation. It should. Yet the minute you try to ram the first barrycade to the White House your life is pretty much over. IMO
