this is just common sense.  in 18 months, al quada will still be there, and we have made it clear that we won't.  karzai has that much time to make nice with the terrorists, or get he throat cut.

afghanistan will go back to the terrorists, but probably not while obama is in office.  then, he can start to blame the NEXT guy, instead of the LAST guy.

Afghanistan Orders U.S. Troops to Leave Crucial Province

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Afghan government on Sunday banned elite American forces from operating in a strategic province adjoining Kabul, citing complaints that Afghans working for American Special Forces have killed and tortured villagers in the area.

The ban is scheduled to go into effect in two weeks in the province, Maidan Wardak, which has long been seen as a crucial link in the defense of the capital against the Taliban. If fully enacted, it would effectively remove the American military’s main source of offensive firepower from the area, which lies southwest of Kabul and is used by the Taliban as a staging ground for attacks on Kabul.

The order has even more potential significance with the scheduled withdrawal of regular American combat forces in Maidan Wardak. By late spring, American officials have said they expect almost all conventional troops in eastern Afghanistan to be focused on advising Afghan forces, leaving Special Operations units as the only offensive troops in the region.

how do we know the missing 9 weren't turned into drone food?

For the past three months, Khogyani said, he has received complaints “in droves” from tribal elders, religious leaders and other residents about the behavior of U.S. Special Operations troops, including allegations that nine people had been arrested and have since disappeared.

“When I spoke with various U.S. forces in the province they did not tell us anything about the fate of the nine — whether they are alive, in prison or dead,” Khogyani said. “People want to know what has happened to them.”

The alleged disappearance of the nine people was also referenced in a statement issued Sunday on the presidential palace’s Web site

Afghans accuse U.S. special forces of being involved in torture

Quote
KABUL, Afghanistan
Afghanistan's president says all U.S. special forces must leave eastern Wardak province within two weeks because of allegations that Afghans working with them are torturing and abusing other Afghans.

Presidential spokesman Aimal Faizi says Sunday's decision was taken during a meeting of the National Security Council because of the alleged actions of Afghans who are linked to the U.S. special forces.

He said the government wants the individuals, whom he did not identify, to be handed over to the government.

Wardak is a restive province next to Kabul and has been the focus of counterinsurgency efforts.
