After the early call last evening I switched over to watching hockey and baseball.

There was a very controversial call in the 9th inning of the Rays v. Blue Jays game:

ST. PETERSBURG -- Major League Baseball's new rules regarding slides at second base loomed large Tuesday night as Jose Bautista was called out for runner interference at second base in a play that saw two apparent runs negated and left the Blue Jays with a 3-2 loss to the Rays.

Tampa Bay was clinging to a one-run lead when Edwin Encarnacion stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning. Encarnacion hit a grounder to third base, and the Rays attempted to turn a game-ending 5-4-3 double play.

Logan Forsythe made the turn at second, but his throw to first was well off line and two runs came around to score as Toronto appeared to take a 4-3 lead. Tampa Bay asked for the play to be reviewed, and it was determined that Bautista had interfered with Forsythe at second.

I was a bit surprised because I forgot about that new rule, and hadn't seen it come into play yet, but was happy that the call went as it did; Rays Win!   Wink

Castro, Tex lead HR parade; Yanks top Astros

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/170838546/castro-teixeira-help-yankees-top-astros

Quote

NEW YORK -- The Yankees chased Collin McHugh early in a six-run first inning, then added a pair of three-run homers from Starlin Castro and Mark Teixeira as they enjoyed a 16-6 rout of the Astros on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

McHugh recorded just one out in the bottom of the first, which saw the Yankees send 12 men to the plate and took 36 minutes to complete. Castro launched his first homer in pinstripes in the second inning and Teixeira went deep in the third inning, both off Michael Feliz. Every Yankees starter had reached base by the second inning.

"I just wanted to be the player that I used to be, to show everybody that I am a good player," said Castro, who collected four hits and drove in five runs. "I can be a better player if I work hard every day, and that's what I'm trying to do. [We] come in here every day and we focus on the game and try to be ready every day."

Nicasio dazzles as Bucs sweep Cards

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/170895622/juan-nicasio-dazzles-pirates-sweep-cardinals

Quote

PITTSBURGH -- The Spring Training sensation is for real, and so too are the Pirates. Right-hander Juan Nicasio fired six strong innings and the Bucs wrapped up a season-opening three-game sweep with a 5-1 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday night at PNC Park.

Nicasio, who earned a spot in the Pirates' rotation after an unexpectedly dominant spring, held the Cards to two hits and struck out seven in his Pittsburgh debut. Formerly a struggling starter with the Rockies and a middling reliever for the Dodgers, Nicasio blew past St. Louis' lineup with the same high-90 mph fastball and wipeout slider that propelled him through the spring.

"We wanted to give him the opportunity to get out there and continue to pitch," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "I thought he was very aggressive. ? He was very effective."

Souza Jr. powers Rays past Blue Jays

http://www.foxsports.com/florida/story/tampa-bay-rays-steven-souza-jr-toronto-blue-jays-score-recap-040616

Quote
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Steven Souza Jr.'s first multihomer game helped the Tampa Bay Rays to a second straight late come-from-behind victory.

Souza's second home run of the game, a go-ahead, three-run drive in the eighth inning, lifted the Rays over the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 Wednesday.

Erasmo Ramirez (1-0) allowed one hit over the final two innings as the Rays split the four-game series after losing the first two.

"Just to even it up with those guys over there was so big for us," Souza said. "It's a great team over there. Obviously a playoff team and one of the best in the American League."

Souza pulled Tampa Bay to 3-2 in the sixth with a solo homer off J.A. Happ. Tampa Bay has homered in a team-record 18 consecutive games dating to Sept. 20.

"I'm just staying within myself," Souza said. "Letting the ball take its course."

Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings singled off Gavin Floyd (0-1) in the eighth, and Arnold Leon relieved with one out. Souza homered to center for his fourth hit of the game, tying his career high.

I was able to watch some of that Yankee game last night. I have a week of free mlb via Diretv. I was surprised to see some of the players still playing. I was looking for A-Roid.  Wink Hard for me to see the Astros in the AL now.

I was able to watch a Vin Scully game this week. I really will miss him. He gave a fact about a players car. The car when cold is black....then when it gets hot outside the car turns red, white and blue.
