dumping doddering old harry reid in 2010 would be a mixed bag.  he has proven to be pretty ineffective as the majority leader, and he is a walking soundbite machine for GOP political advertisements.   if you dump him, you will likely get durbin, or worse.  maybe even waxman.

but at this point, any dem senate seat that you can flip is a huge issue.

Poll: Either GOP challenger could topple Harry Reid

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid famously ignores polls, but he might be paying attention to this one.

Results released today show not only does Reid remain unpopular in Nevada, he would be clobbered in next fall’s election by either of two potential Republican challengers.

The poll has been bouncing around Washington today – other takes on the poll are available from Politico and CQ Politics.

The poll shows Reid being beat by 11 percentage points (38 percent to 49 percent, with 13 undecided) by Republican Danny Tarkanian, a real estate professional who has run twice unsuccessfully for public office. His father was the legendary basketball coach at UNLV.

If the matchup were today, Reid also would fall to Sue Lowden (40 percent to 45 percent, with 15 undecided), the chair of the state’s struggling Republican Party who has not yet entered the race. The former state legislator and television news journalist is expected to announce in the next few weeks if she will run.

The poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, surveyed 400 Nevadans and had a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.

the more republicans that get into the race, the more likely it is that someone like john mccain wins the primary.  jus' sayin'

State Sen. Amodei enters race against Harry Reid

CARSON CITY – State Sen. Mark Amodei announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, calling incumbent Sen. Harry Reid a “$25 million man” who hasn’t done much to help Nevada emerge from its economic doldrums.

Amodei, who has served 14 years in the Legislature, said the state is in “serious, serious trouble” and having the majority leader in the Senate “really isn’t doing much for you.”

Amodei, 51, of Carson City, will seek the GOP nomination, entering a growing field. Danny Tarkanian has already announced. And state Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden is expected to enter the race.

“You won’t see any negative campaign out of me in the primary,” he said. “It’s would be a dumb thing to do in the context of the registration realities of this state.”

Democrats outnumber registered Republicans 541,902 to 438,747 with 188,440 voters registered as non partisan, according to the latest figures from the Secretary of State’s Office.
