the DNA story is all over the place.  but all you would need is a DNA sample.  you could dispose of the body once you secured that.

but I have read every possible combination of events when it comes to the DNA thing.  that is part of the story that still seems to be up in the air.

How long does it take to do the DNA test? I think he is dead don't get me wrong, just it was 8 hours from the time of death to burial at sea i think.

I'm glad he knew he was about to die, and I'm glad that he knew it was the US that was about to send him to hell.  I am only a bit sorry that SEALs are such good shots.  I wish he had suffered.

and I guess this is why muslim men get multiple wives;  muslim women are disposable.

Quote
Bin Laden used wife as shield

Osama bin Laden used women as human shields as American forces fired on him in Pakistan on Sunday, White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan said.

Brennan told reporters at the White House that women were “put in front of him as a shield.” He said that “speaks to, I think, the nature of the individual he was.”

One of the women was bin Laden's wife, Brennan said.

The secret team that killed bin Laden

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_exclusive/20110502/pl_yblog_exclusive/the-secret-team-that-killed-bin-laden

Quote
From Ghazi Air Base in Pakistan, the modified MH-60 helicopters made their way to the garrison suburb of Abbottabad, about 30 miles from the center of Islamabad. Aboard were Navy SEALs, flown across the border from Afghanistan, along with tactical signals, intelligence collectors, and navigators using highly classified hyperspectral imagers.

After bursts of fire over 40 minutes, 22 people were killed or captured. One of the dead was Osama bin Laden, done in by a double tap -- boom, boom -- to the left side of his face. His body was aboard the choppers that made the trip back. One had experienced mechanical failure and was destroyed by U.S. forces, military and White House officials tell National Journal.

Were it not for this high-value target, it might have been a routine mission for the specially trained and highly mythologized SEAL Team Six, officially called the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, but known even to the locals at their home base Dam Neck in Virginia as just DevGru.

CONGRATS POUR IN: Here are the world leaders, according to the White House, who congratulated President Obama on Monday for authorizing the attack that killed Osama bin Laden:

Felipe Calderon, David Cameron, Angela Merkel, Benjamin Netanyahu, Sebastian Pinera, Juan Manuel Santos and Nicolas Sarkozy

They all "congratulated the President, and conveyed admiration for the courage and capability of the Americans who conducted the operation," the White House said in a statement. "The leaders discussed the ongoing terrorist threat that will require steadfast efforts in the future, and committed to working closely together to defeat al Qaeda.".

he vetoed a plan to drop a bomb on the place in favor of the much riskier raid, simply, it appears, so that he could "take possession" of the body.  so he would have "proof" that it was him.

why would he want "proof"?  if he's really gone, do we care if people believe it or not?

for whom and why?   did we want undeniable proof in order to discourage al quada, or to encourage reelection voters?

I think it's a valid question, and something I have wondered since I read that the "2,000 guided munition option" was considered, but rejected.  it's infinitely safer for US personnel, and stood an equally good chance of working.

I can understand the logic of being sure we GET HIM.  He was a high value target, perhaps one of the highest, and verification was critical, so boots on the ground made sense.  And when you consider they used the best team to make this happen, we were certainly serious in his capture on this day.

This is a good sign however.  Obama is truly desperate and is pulling out all the stops, including the visit to NY's ground zero.

if you drop a big enough bomb on that house, you will be certain to get him.  and a high value target is a high value target because of what they do (or did), not merely who they are.

dead people won't be doing anything ever again.  so, clearly, the point is killing the person.  that removes the future behavior.

the point is making him dead.  not proving to anyone that he's dead.

it's somewhat surprising to me that, other than hamas and a few stray bitter-enders on the al jazeera discussion boards, no one in the muslim world seems to give a sh*t that this guy is sleeping with the fishes.

10 years spent frantically attempting to remain alive probably doesn't leave much time to plan terror strikes.  this guy was symbolic, not strategic.

White House: bin Laden photo 'gruesome'

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/top/all/7548373.html

Quote
WASHINGTON — The White House says the photograph of a dead Osama bin Laden is "gruesome" and that "it could be inflammatory" if released.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said the White House is mulling whether to make the photo public, but he said officials are concerned about the "sensitivity" of doing so. Carney said there is a discussion internally about the most appropriate way to handle but "there is not some roiling debate here about this."

Asked if President Barack Obama is involved in the photo discussion, Carney said the president is involved in every aspect of this issue.
WHAT ABOUT DANIEL PEARL??? THOSE CONTRACTORS WHOSE BODY'S WERE BURNED AND HUNG FROM THAT BRIDGE?Huh?? WHAT ABOUT THAT OTHER MAN NICK BURG I THINK HIS NAME WAS, KSM KICKED THE CHAIR HE WAS TIED IN AND SLIT HIS THROAT?Huh??
Quote
The last time President Obama went to Ground Zero was 2008, and he was with John McCain for what both campaigns described, without irony, as a non-political observance of the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

Any time a politician goes to Ground Zero -- in September or otherwise -- and especially with a retinue of national media in tow, it's deeply political.

Which is what makes Obama's planned trip to Ground Zero on Thursday so curious. What's he going to say? How to avoid making a post-kill mission trip to the hallowed ground not appear exploitative and intensely political?

"He risks overdoing it," said Cindy Rugeley, a political scientist at Texas A&M University. "You don't want to appear like you are taking advantage of the situation."

After his dramatic, late-night announcement on Sunday that Osama bin Laden was dead, Obama followed up the next day with brief remarks about it at a medal of honor ceremony, and more remarks later at a bipartisan dinner with lawmakers.

The White House says it is worried about the troops safety with the release of the photo..SURE RIGHT.. The only reason 0 used a Seal Team was to get the body and improve his poll rating. NOTHING ELSE. He is going to Ground Zero Thursday Even Politico says it is a victory lap.

retreating?  personally, I wouldn't care if he was hanging from a chandelier with his boxers on his head when we whacked him, but if the MSM got so much as a whiff of the guy getting shot in the back when GWB was president, they would be going insane.  INSANE, I tell ya.

so would pelosi, and the doddering old man, harry reid, and senator obama.

I wonder if that has anything to do with not releasing the pictures.

According to the latest reports released by the administration, bin Laden was found on the third floor of his compound, in the doorway of his bedroom. When he turned and retreated, he was shot twice, in the head and in the chest. The Navy SEAL team later found an AK-47 and a pistol in bin Laden’s room, according to reports.

“He was retreating,” a US official told The Washington Post, which he added is a move that is regarded as resistance warranting US commando team fire. “Is he getting a weapon?” the official said. “You don’t know why he’s retreating, [or] what he’s doing when he goes back in there.”

I wonder why they do not release the pictures, yet again I am sure they are going to milk this for a while.
