My comment about becoming more like Russia was not in regard to morality.  It was more precisely the fact or general acceptance to allow the STATE to be RESPONSIBLE for EDUCATING our children on the subject of SEX!

Better to require all parents to enroll in a course on how and what to be sure to instruct your children on regarding sex...and make it a program to help/encourage parents to guide their own children, rather than leaving the childrens' mindset in the hands of some pretty serious deviants, for which there are a plenty in public schools.

Have the government make parents take a class?

Better that than having the government teach our children directly about sex.

Gotchya,

I'm actually in agreement with you!  I fully believe, that a responsible parent, takes responsibility for the education of their children.  I'll even extend that too all of their pre-college education, and not limit it too merely sex education.  Unfortunately, our rates in the aforementioned areas, clearly show... well something's askew... So like public assistance on education in history, math, science, etc... I personally believe there's a need for that same assistance in the area of Sex Ed.  Ideally, of course not, but unfortunately we just don't live in an ideal world.

Yes, unfortunately, any dumb b*ast*rd can parent a child(ren).  And unfortunately, there are many born to two dummies.  So, just because they can biologically produce a  child doesn't mean they have a clue about parenting.

If you have to have a license to operate a vehicle, what's wrong with requiring classes for parents so that they have the leading role in guiding their child(ren) in such matters as sex, etc.

It is the parents and not the state that should have ownership of a child's development, particularly on sex and other related areas.

I just saw too many cases of public school teachers abusing our kids, and being on a school board, you hear about many case studies that occur in other schools too, and these stories almost NEVER hit the news media (if it is a decently funded school).

Go to Oakland, there was a teacher having 2nd graders doing oral sex. Sounds your kind of thing.

A better idea is NOT having strangers and perverts (aka government agents) telling our children about sex. period.

That is what I am telling all of you.

If the general public heard all the outrageous stories going on in public education, they would be out of business.  Believe me when I tell you there are PLENTY of deviants in our public school systems.  PLENTY!

A teacher in my school district was arrested for molesting a kid when he worked in the city next door. He was caught and trandferred here. The school system didn't care, they just moved the problem. The law finally caught up with him though.

A good idea is to ban anything sexual from public schools. That would be better than what we have now and definitely better than trusting public schools with our children.

That really is a shame, and further reinforces the need for an active school board and parent-teacher-organization to ensure the health and well being of the children.  Hopefully, in those cases, a responsible school board and administration implemented far more controls about the quality of their teachers.  Thank you, for participating on a school board!

That's uncalled for.

I believe in a comprehensive sex-ed course, which at least when I was in school it required a permission note from your parents.  If you feel your child wouldn't be getting a good education in that arena from the school system, you can choose to opt-out your child.

The only religion allowed in our public schools is Islam.

Our schools tell kids if it feels good do it.

The idea that our public schools are run on a religious basis is so stupid as to be indecent.

I remember a John Stossel report from a high school on nightline where they literally showed a porn film to the students as sex-ed. Does that sound religious? Oh right, they were said to be wearing wedding rings so it must have been those damned Baptists or something.

I don't have kids (something my mother reminds me almost weekly to thank God for  Grin), but if I did, I doubt they would go to public schools.  you just read too much.  for years, people here moved across a rickety, unsafe bridge (since replaced) just because the schools were better there.

the schools have been underachieving for years and years, and now a healthy system of private schools has sprung up.  not to mention the fact that I wouldn't want anyone teaching my kid about sex ed but me.

My neice learned that humans will wipe out 70% of animal and plant life on Earth in the next 50 years. With facts like that getting taught, we're going to need to import even more scientists and engieers from India and China.

If her parents have been involved in her education, as I'm sure they have.  I'm not sure that is actually what she learned, she'd have likely learned how the statistics and estimates were used to reach that conclusion, and hopefully the critical thinking skills necessary to determine the flaws in the inherent presumptions required to reach that hypothesis.  It actually could be a very good group project for the teacher to assign, followed up with a classroom discussion.  It would clearly indicate to the teacher the level of effort put into the work by the students.  Granted, the chance of that actually being the case is likely slim to none... but it could be a decent teaching/learning opportunity!
