Hundreds of Bodies Found in Japan After Massive Tsunami Spawned by Earthquake
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/03/11/massive-7-magnitude-earthquake-strikes-japan/The U.S. Geological Survey said the 2:46 p.m. quake was a magnitude 8.9, the biggest earthquake to hit Japan since officials began keeping records in the late 1800s, and one of the biggest ever recorded in the world.
The quake struck at a depth of six miles, about 80 miles off the eastern coast, the agency said. The area is 240 miles northeast of Tokyo.
The Japanese government ordered thousands of residents near a nuclear power plant in Onahama city to evacuate because the plant's system was unable to cool the reactor. The reactor was not leaking radiation but its core remained hot even after a shutdown. The plant is 170 miles northeast of Tokyo.
Dozens of cities and villages along a 1,300-mile stretch of coastline were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles from the epicenter.
Boss, I put in title Japan earthquake thread of course feel free to change!!!

U.S. delivers coolant to Japan nuclear plant: Clintonhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110311/pl_nm/us_japan_quake_nuclear_clintonWASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States has transported coolant to a Japanese nuclear plant affected by a massive earthquake and will continue to assist Japan, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday.
"We just had our Air Force assets in Japan transport some really important coolant to one of the nuclear plants," Clinton said at a meeting of the President's Export Council.
"You know Japan is very reliant on nuclear power and they have very high engineering standards but one of their plants came Another quake just hit Japan... a 6.6 no link yet

Crescent City docks severely damaged by tsunamihttp://www.ksby.com/news/crescent-city-docks-severely-damaged-by-tsunami/CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (AP) - Officials say the tsunami triggered by the massive earthquake in Japan has caused severe damage to the harbor in Crescent City, near the Oregon border.
Del Norte County sheriff's spokesman Bill Stevens says most boats were pulled out of the harbor in preparation for Friday's tsunami, but 35 vessels that remained are crashing into one another and sinking.
The wooden docks also are breaking apart under the force of the waves.
Crescent City Councilwoman Kelly Schellong says the docks and harbor "are pretty much completely destroyed."

Japanese nuclear reactor in perilhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/03/11/AR2011031103673.htmlThe key buildings in the Onagawa plant are about 15 meters above sea level, according to the Web site of Tohoku Electric Power, owner of the plant. The company said that was about twice the height of the previous highest tsunami.
Japanese authorities told the IAEA that that the Onagawa, Fukushima-Daini and Tokai nuclear power plants shut down automatically, and no radiation release has been detected. The plants have multiple nuclear reactors.
The IAEA said it is seeking details on Fukushima Daiichi and other nuclear power plants and research reactors, including information on off-site and on-site electrical power supplies, cooling systems and the condition of the reactor buildings. Nuclear fuel requires continued cooling even after a plant is shut down, the IAEA noted.

I read they're upgrading it to a 9.1. I also saw an article saying the Earth shifted 10cm on it's axis.

An earthquake releases stress in one area and adds stress in another, while at the same time reducing restraining force in another. It's kinda like a domino effect. Look for more quakes to follow around the "ring of fire". If I lived on the U.S. west coast or Alaska I would seriously consider moving east. This serries of quakes started in Mexico, then Chile, then New Zealand, then Japan. Next? Aleutian Islands? mainland Alaska? western Canada? Washington State? Oregon? California?
I live in the Florida Panhandle and don't feel completely immune here. An earthquake anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico/Carribean could cause a tsunami here. And no, I don't tremble in fear 24hrs a day, actually, seldom think about it, until now.

Swept away by the tsunami: 10,000 people missing in flattened town which bore brunt of killer wave caused by megaquake http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1365569/Japan-earthquake-tsunami-10-000-people-missing-Minamisanriku.html * 9,500 people missing in Minamisanriku 24 hours after double disaster struck * Official death toll hits 574, but hundreds believed to be buried under rubble or washed away by waves * Explosion at nuclear power plant, but experts say reactor is not at risk * Region hit by repeated aftershocks, some up 6.8-magnitude * Rescue operation begins but some areas still cut off by road damage and flood waters * Force of quake shifts Japan 8ft to the East
Half of the population of a Japanese coastal town are still unaccounted for as the death toll from the massive earthquake and tsunami looks set to rise.
Government officials revealed the fate of 9,500 people in the north eastern port of Minamisanriku was still unknown more than 24 hours after the double disaster hit.
The official death toll stands at 574, but more than 1,700 people are believed to have been buried in the rubble or washed away by the waves.
