Just prior to fiber optics being used everywhere, I told the assistant superintendent of the school district whose board I was on that TEACHERS would end up being the BLACKSMITHS OF THE 21st CENTURY.

That's right, how many blacksmiths do we have today, 1-3 per state?

Well, when the cost of a warm blooded teacher exceeds the cost of technology, look for technology to eliminate 99% of all teaching positions for normal children.  Special education teachers will still be required, and they are the exception, not the rule.

Cost per teacher on the high end of the pay scale is over $100,000 per year, for 8.5 months of work.  Again, when technology becomes a cheaper alternative, they will be eliminated.  There are already classes being conducted via the Internet, with hundreds if not thousands of students with one teacher.

Just a matter of time.
